U.S. EPA yesterday took a first step toward what could become a new set of regulations governing emissions of methane from oil and gas operations.

Yesterday, the agency released a set of five white papers analyzing methane leaks from the industry.

The EPA release is the first part in a multi-step effort the agency is taking to address emissions of methane, a greenhouse gas that is is about 30 times more potent than carbon dioxide over a 100-year time period.
