Summary:
  • VW’s electrification plans consist of three main steps:  (1) Current and refreshed cars, (2) two flagships from Audi/Porsche, and (3) an all-new platform.
  • The most interesting of these is naturally the third and final step:  The all-new 100% electric platform.
  • Pilot production of this "MEB" platform starts around mid-2019 and customer volume production around mid-2020 as a 2021 model.
  • There will be 30 different models in the MEB series by 2025 under the VW, Audi, Porsche, SEAT, Skoda, Bentley, and other brands.
  • “Thanks” to the Chevrolet Bolt and soon the Nissan LEAF 2.0, VW has fallen behind in electric cars.  It looks to change this with the MEB platform.
